1.In the first two paragraphs Ishmael is in a quiet town. There were dead bodies everywhere. The only life that was sensed was his own. There was blood everywhere. He was in a place where the war hit hard.
2.The last two paragraphs take place in New York, in Ishmael’s home. It is night time and Ishmael keeps having flashbacks of his past. He refers to it as dream world. His dreams take place in his past at a battle with other boys on a soccer field. They also sit and eat on dead bodies.
3.He says he lives in three worlds which are his dreams, his experiences of his new life, which trigger memories from the past. He means in his eyes he is trapped by the story of his past and can’t avoid it.

chapter2 part 1
1.I have not experienced anything like what Ishmael experienced, and I also haven’t had a traumatizing experience.
2.Some examples of war that I read about in this chapter are boys carrying AK-47 on their backs, the dead bodies everywhere, and the boy shooting at the other group and vise-versa.
3.Ishmael had been in New York for a month. I don’t think he will be okay after his experience in Sierra Leon.
4.Some boys in the U.S. have calm laid back life and they take education for granted. Some boys in Sierra Leon don’t take education for granted and they also don’t have the accessories to life that we have. All of the boys go through trial (some more than others) and like some sort of rap music.
5.I think the memories are bad memories. War memories are always bad because they involve death.

2.They were getting irritable because they were very hungry. They needed food really bad.
3.There is six of them running away.
4.Ishmael and his friends jumped a little five year old for two ears of corn.
5.His mom didn’t get angry instead she gave them more food. If I was in the same situation they were in, in Sierra Leone, I would because I would want someone to do the same for me.
6.The boys were walking through a grassy area when the rebels stopped and pulled guns on them to taunt them. I would have stood there just like they did if there was a chance for me to live.
7.The rebels dressed as Americans do, red rags on their head, and a lot of expensive jewelry. Their attitudes was as if they were the best and nobody else could harm them. They were all younger than 21.
8.The old man who was trying to escape was taunted, scared by a gun shot, and he fainted.
9.In their culture your suppose to the up most respect for the elders. I my culture I think it should be the same as theirs because the elder people deserve it because they are much wiser than we are.

11.The new recruits had to kill the people who weren’t chosen. I have been pressured to do something. In eighth grade I had to slap a girl or I was a wimp and I did it.
12.The rebels here shooting so they started shooting back while the hostages escaped into the forest.

14.The incident scared the boys deeply so they decided to leave to somewhere safe to get away.

1.His life has been worse because they now have no food they are hungry and they have to be eating just fruits like orange and coconuts
2. They had to sneak back because they had to get some money they left behind so that they can get some food.
3. They see a lot of bodies laying on the floor and some even got some parts of their bodies chopped off
4. They are all empty and have lots of bullets in the walls and doors are missing
5. Why were they happy? What did they have? They were happy because they got the money they had left behind and they got some food
6. They ate well but they were hungry again in the night and had no more food
7. They thought they should be more careful with what they do and how they do it

5. On the trip they took notebooks of lyrics that they were working on they stuffed their pockets with cassettes of rap albums. They were wearing baggy jeans and underneath that they wore soccer shorts and sweatpants for dancing.
6. At a river that they stopped to swim at the narrator got out before junior and Talloi and ran with their clothes.
7. From the description of his grandparents I get the impression that they are very nice people. Who love their grand children a lot.
8. When they arrived at Matru Jong they stayed khalilou’s house.
9. They heard that the rebels had attacked Mogbwemo, their home.
10. They went to a wharf to hear news about their family but no one knew anything about their family.
11. The living situation between the main characters family is that his parents are divorced and his dad pays for his school and he doesn’t get along with his stepmom.
12. As they were leaving in a canoe a women with flip-flops told them that too much blood has been spilled were you are going. Even the good spirits have fled from that place.
13. when they got to his grandmother’s village there was nothing it was deserted then a Volkswagen popped out of no where with a guy whose arm was bleeding.
14. they decided to return to Matru jong because they saw that Mogbwemo was a place that they couldn’t call home anymore and that his parents couldn’t possibly be there anymore.
15. New regulations at matru jong were that soldiers established checkpoints and made the curfew at 7 pm
16. the boys agreed that the war was just a passing phase that wouldn’t last over six months.
